The Southern Colorado Fair Housing Center recently formed to provide legal and referral services free of charge to people facing all forms of housing discrimination. The main emphasis of this organization is to ensure Fair Housing Act (“FHA”) guidelines1 are followed by offering protection to groups who face housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin in housing. The organization’s emphasis on poverty is related to this mission as people from protected classes face a higher risk of discrimination, often, resulting in poverty.

The activities of this organization will include providing these services to people in Southern Colorado, particularly the rural areas in the southeast region of the state. Our activities will include training, testing, outreach, advertising within the communities of Southern Colorado, offering referral services to report housing discrimination, and offering legal services to handle violations of the FHA.

This nonprofit organization is dedicated to Bruce Buell.
